Welcome to Scotten School and thanks to all of you who have provided me with a warm welcome. I was fortunate to hire several talented and experienced new teachers and instructional aides this year who will add to our caring and knowledgeable staff. In these past few weeks I have seen for myself that Scotten Elementary is truly an amazing school. The educators provide a strong, rewarding, and well-rounded program for every child.
Building a welcoming school community is one of my goals for the year. Be listening and looking for upcoming community events, school sings, support, and fun for your child and family. I encourage you to become involved at Scotten. Research shows that parent participation greatly increases student achievement. Together as a team, parents and school staff, we can help each child reach his or her highest potential. Scotten will continue to have all school sings but they will now take place on the first Friday afternoon of the month from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m.
As many of you know, Scotten and the entire Grass Valley School District have been working very hard on providing positive behavior intervention support and the results have been encouraging. This is due to the efforts of parents and educators in the district working together to help students understand the expectations and provide consistent feedback to students at all times. I encourage parents to volunteer at school and have been excited to meet so many of you already involved. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the office at (530) 273-6472. The office staff and I will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
Again, I look forward to meeting each of you and to working with your children this year. Please do not hesitate to introduce yourself when you see me in the morning before school as I greet students or in the afternoons as I help at pick-up time. Being the principal of Scotten School is truly an honor and responsibility and I know that by working together we can make it a great school year for your children.
