Scotten Garden Commitee

Scotten School is proud to have a fenced garden area and greenhouse for our students to use.  This project was implemented last year with the help of school staff, students, parents, and community members.  After fencing, building the greenhouse, and installation of several raised beds, the garden was put into use in the spring of 2010.

This project provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn science concepts, such as life cycles, basic requirements for life, and plant anatomy through hands on learning by starting seedlings in the greenhouse and planting in the garden.

Our garden continues to grow!  We were recently featured at the Nevada County Fair with a raised bed in the Ag Experience area, and have most recently been named as a recipient of the Live Health Nevada County grant for mobile garden stands.  We will be starting our "Farmers' Market" stand sometime in September.  We are currently in need of parent volunteers to staff the garden stand and also we will need contributions of fresh produce from family gardens.  If you are interested in helping us with this project please contact our Scotten School Office, at 530.273.6472.
